MSU sets homecoming activities

MANKATO — New family-friendly activities have been added to the list of activities slated during Minnesota State University's 2023 Homecoming Week.

Mavericks on the Mall is scheduled 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday on the student union mall. Free activities at the new attraction include a bounce house, nine-hole mini golf course, face painting, caricature drawing, live music and a Goofy Goat farm exhibit. Food vendors will be on hand.

Traditional public events of the annual celebration include a free pancake breakfast, a parade and a bonfire followed by fireworks.

Homecoming activities begin with a kickoff 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at Centennial Student Union's mall. The free outdoor event will include live music and a meet-and-greet with homecoming royalty.

Other free spectator events include a Lego-building activity noon Tuesday in the student union's Hearth Lounge area. A lip-sync competition is planned in conjunction with coronation festivities 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday in Taylor Center's Bresnan Arena.

The annual bonfire will be lit about 8 p.m. Friday. The free event will feature music and a fireworks display.

A concert by rapper Kid Ink will open at 9 p.m. Friday in Myers Field House. Ticket prices range from $20 for the general public to $5 for MSU alumni.

MSU President Edward Inch will be the host at a free community pancake breakfast early Saturday morning on the campus mall.

"Mavericks in Paradise" is the theme for this year's 11 a.m. homecoming parade along Warren Street and Stadium Road.

Saturday's athletic competitions include the Maverick volleyball game against Northern State at 11 a.m. in Taylor Center and the Maverick football game against Minnesota State University-Moorhead at 2 p.m. at Blakeslee Stadium.
