MTEC car and truck show is Sunday

Sep. 10—Let there be chrome, Cragar mags and metallic-fleck paint jobs, lacquered and buffed to a 3-D sheen.

And lo, let there also be mighty engines residing under the hood — sounding like a Detroit temper tantrum, once the key is turned.

"Yeah, this is gonna be a good time, " Greg Dausch said Friday.

Dausch is director of the Monongalia County Technical Education Center, and he's talking about a horsepower-laden fundraiser happening this weekend on the campus at Mississippi Street.

MTEC's annual Car and Truck show is from noon-3 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine, Dausch said.

It's an opportunity, the director added, to come out and take in rows of classic vehicles — while also learning about all the unique vehicles of learning offered there.

Students at the center bake cherry pies and operate plasma cutters. They become certified automobile repair technicians while building foundations for careers in nursing.

They become carpenters, plumbers and graphic artists.

"We're pretty diverse, " he said.

Meanwhile, the car show is free to the public. However, the entrance fee for those wishing to show off their classic cars and trucks is $10 — with every bit of that going to the benefit of MTEC students, Dausch said.

The show normally takes in $3, 000 to $3, 500, the director said. In turn, those dollars are used for materials and entry fees when MTEC students compete in regional and national events.

Look for students Sunday, he said, talking up programs and giving tours of the facility.

"They're great ambassadors, " he said.

And grateful beneficiaries.

"Our graduates, whether they're high school students or adult learners, come out of here knowing they're going to get hired. They know they're on their way, because we get them on their way."
