MTP Compressed: Liz Cheney outlines the future of the Republican Party under Trump’s influence

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) joined “Meet the Press” for an exclusive, on-set interview as the midterm elections near. Cheney discussed threats to democracy as a top issue for voters this election cycle. She said “no one of any party should vote for election deniers." Cheney specifically called out Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R) and Arizona Secretary of State candidate Mark Finchem. Cheney said it was “indefensible” for Republicans to place party over country. On Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) comments about withdrawing support for Ukraine, Cheney said it’s a “stunning" and “dangerous” thing to say. Cheney, who serves as vice chair on the Jan. 6 Select Committee, outlined the committee's preparations ahead of former President Trump’s deposition. On the question of 2024, Cheney foreshadowed a “new” conservative party emerging if Trump becomes the Republican presidential nominee.
