MTU Theatre to present ‘Imagining (Im)Possibilities: Museum Explorations’

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WJMN) – The public is invited to join Michigan Technological University Theatre students this week as they explore the craft and design of museum exhibits and presentations.

The event is called Imagining Impossibilities. Michigan Tech’s Theatre Department has been working with a number of local groups to help support and promote the history of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Some groups include the Quincy Mine Hoist Association and the Keweenaw National Historic Park.

“Our plan for the event is to create a set of immersive, interactive, and static displays that highlight local history and interests,” said Mary Cyr, assistant teaching professor in MTU’s Visual and Performing Arts Department. “In addition to that, we will also have displays that are immersive, interactive, and static that focus on collaboration in the world of theatre. We have a Theatre Entertainment Technology degree here and so we’ve been working to create different events that they can work on to work on those skills because we want to have really well-trained technicians to go out into the world.”

You can check out Imagining Impossibilities: Museum Explorations at MTU’s McArdle Theatre from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. starting tomorrow and will run through Saturday, February 17. It’s a 30-minute self-guided tour and recommended for all ages. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at tickets.mtu.edu.
