How much creamer is too much in your cup of coffee?

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — If you are struggling to wake up in the morning, or need more energy for those tough days at work, then you will probably pour yourself a cup of fresh coffee in the morning.

Primary progressive aphasia: What is it?

It is no secret that a ton of people love drinking coffee, which means people will add other ingredients to it to make it more appealing for them to drink. Not everyone loves to drink their coffee black, which is why people love to add coffee creamer.

Although coffee creamer may add that extra flavor to your coffee, it can lead to negative health patterns. Here are some reasons why you should maybe think twice before adding that creamy ingredient.

It does not actually contain cream

You read that correctly. There is no cream or dairy in that coffee “creamer” that you love so much. It is actually a mixture of other ingredients, such as corn syrup, water, and partially hydrogenated oils that are mixed together to give that milky-sweet taste.

It is full of chemicals

To go along with its ingredients, creamers also contain a fair amount of thickeners and preservatives. According to delish, Thickeners like carrageenan and cellulose gum imitate that thick, luscious texture that we expect from dairy products. Other preservatives are added to help give creamer that longer shelf life. Thickeners have also been known to cause inflammation and gastrointestinal issues and some preservatives can actually cause damage to your reproductive system.

Creamers can be full of sugar

Creamers have a lot of added sugar, which can definitely be harmful to your diet. Some creamers contain five grams per tablespoon used, which is 10 percent of your daily recommended sugar intake, but you are probably using more in your morning coffee.

Creamers can make you crave more sugar

When you consume sugar in the morning, you are likely to end up craving sugar all day because it satisfies your sweet tooth. This means by around noon, you will be heading to the vending machine at work for a soda or candy bar.

Sugar-free creamers can be even worse

The term “sugar-free” is one of the best marketing tactics out there. You would think because a product says “sugar-free” that it is actually free of sugar. Take that idea out of your head because it is wrong. “Sugar-free” means that instead of corn syrup, artificial sweeteners are used to achieve that sweet flavor. Unfortunately, it is just more added chemicals in this product. Too much consumption of sugar-free creamer can actually lead to serious health issues, such as Type 2 Diabetes.

It’s almost impossible to consume in moderation

Coffee can make or break your diet and health. If you enjoy coffee everyday, you are most likely to use creamer everyday, which could be harmful to your body overtime.

There are other options

There are healthier alternatives to creamer. You could put actual cream in your morning coffee, and if you do not like dairy, then you can try oat milk or almond milk. If you want something sweet in your coffee, you can try brown sugar or simple syrup, says delish.

With simple ingredients such as these, you can recognize what you are actually putting into your body. You might even find yourself having more energy and feeling better physically.
