How much has the over-under changed? Betting lines, odds for Mizzou-Auburn

Another week, another opportunity for profit betting the Missouri football game.

MU did not cover 33 points last week against Abilene Christian, dropping the Tigers to 1-2 against the spread this season.

Before Saturday’s matchup, here’s what to know about betting the game. As always, sports gambling remains illegal in the state of Missouri, so this information is for entertainment purposes only (wink).

The line

Auburn is favored by seven points in Saturday’s matchup at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn has not covered the spread yet this season.

For Bryan Harsin’s bunch to make the points, it might behoove them to give running back Tank Bigsby more touches. Bigsby only got nine carries in last week's loss to Penn State, finishing with 39 yards.

Offensively, Auburn will also be playing without its starting quarterback TJ Finley. No starter has been announced yet, but other options include Robby Ashford and Zach Calzada.

Missouri’s ability to cover will likely lie with its offensive line. The unit has struggled mightily throughout the season, even against inferior opponents in the Louisiana Tech and Abilene Christian games.

Auburn’s defensive front seven is good enough that even if MU’s group was performing at its best, things might still be difficult. If the offensive line doesn’t pull it together, a Missouri cover could be hard to envision.

All bets one way or the other should also take into account that Auburn football is prone to chaos. With a coach on the hot seat, weird things can happen. This is especially true in Jordan-Hare, where the football could prove unpredictable.

The over/under

The over/under for Missouri and Auburn’s game sat at 51.5 at the time of writing. That number had dropped from opening when it was at 53.5.

The total points result could also be impacted by Missouri’s offensive line. If the Tigers can keep quarterback Brady Cook clean and open up the run game a bit, MU could be primed for a big day.

Missouri showed flashes of an explosive offense against Abilene Christian. Wide receiver Dominic Lovett had a huge day with two touchdown catches, and Luther Burden also made his presence known after a slow week at Kansas State.

In addition to getting more touches on offense, Burden made an impact on special teams. He got his first chance to return a punt against Abilene Christian, caught the ball on a bounce and ran it all the way to the house.

If Burden can have a second huge game in the row and take the lion’s share of Auburn’s defensive attention, it could open things up elsewhere for the offense. In addition, Missouri has struggled with tackling at times throughout the last few weeks and with Auburn’s strong run game, there’s the potential for plenty of offense, which could help the all-Tigers matchup blow past the points total.

The big bets

Despite the win against Abilene Christian, Missouri’s already distant odds to win the 2022 national championship moved from around 800-1 to around 1000-1. Bettors can find even better odds than that in some places, even up to around 2500-1.

Similarly, ill-advised bets for a Missouri SEC championship can be had at around 400-1. Auburn’s odds sit at around 200-1 for a conference title.

Saturday’s game against Auburn will also include one player with available odds for the Heisman Trophy. Bigsby sits at around 250-1 for the award.
