Here’s how much rain fell on San Diego in first storm of February

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego County kicked off February with another downpour from a powerful winter storm, and more is on the way.

The fast-moving Pacific storm was one of two atmospheric rivers to hit the region in the first week of the shortest month of the year, bringing with it heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Ahead of the storm, forecasters said torrential rains would be the biggest impact of the first system, triggering multiple flood advisories and an evacuation warning for residents of San Diego communities devastated by flash flooding last week.

Days of rain ahead for San Diego County, says National Weather Service

While the latest storm did not have same catastrophic impacts as the one on Jan. 22 that caused 1,000-year floods, San Diegans still saw a lot of rain — even some overnight hail and mountain snow. So, exactly ho much fell while the system moved over the region?

As of 10 a.m. Friday, most parts of the county had received about 0.75 inches to about 1.5 inches of rain, according to two-day totals from the National Weather Service.

However, mountain and North County communities, many of whom were placed under a flash flood warning as the strongest part of the storm hit Thursday afternoon, saw totals upwards of three inches.

Below is a breakdown of preliminary accumulated precipitation totals across the county as of 10 a.m. Friday. However, NWS says stations above the snow level, which dropped to 4,500 feet Thursday night, may not show accurate accumulating precipitation. A full list can be found here.
