Here’s how much SC ticket sales contributed to the now 3rd largest $875M Powerball jackpot

South Carolinians have collectively spent a hefty chunk of change to win the current Powerball jackpot.

Strong ticket sales have grown the Powerball jackpot to $875 million for Saturday’s drawing, making it the third largest in the lottery’s history. The largest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion, which was won last year, followed by the $1.586 billion jackpot won in 2016.

So how much has been spent on Powerball tickets in South Carolina for the current jackpot run?

As of Wednesday, South Carolina had $23 million in Powerball sales, a spokesperson for the South Carolina Education Lottery told The State. With basic Powerball tickets costing just $2 each, that total is a solid chunk of change to raise.

The next Powerball drawing is set for 10:59 p.m. on Saturday.

Should someone win the current jackpot, they stand to take home a lump sum of $441.9 million before taxes. There have been 36 consecutive Powerball drawings without a big winner in the latest jackpot run. The last winning Powerball jackpot was on April 19 when a ticket sold in Ohio won the $252.6 million prize.

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
