How much snow did Rhode Island cities and towns get? Here are the inch counts

The area's first plowable snowstorm of the season mostly dissipated into a drizzly afternoon Tuesday, and the thick blanket that had kept some Rhode Islanders from work and school just a few hours earlier was slipping away by nightfall, thinned conspicuously by warmth and rain.

Morning brought a slow commute throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts as the melted snow turned to ice overnight. Several crashes were reported on major roadways, including a multi-car crash on the Pell Bridge in Newport.

How thick was that blanket when the snow stopped around midday? It depends on where you measured it. Below you'll find the inch counts from communities in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts as reported to the National Weather Service.

But first, the NWS forecast for Providence today: Sunny in the morning, then becoming partly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s. North winds 5 to 10 mph, becoming southeast. In the afternoon, cloudy with a 40% chance of rain.
