Rocks and mud spilled onto Highway 33 near Creek Road Tuesday afternoon, closing the route for a time near Oak View, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The debris was reported around 3:15 p.m. amid rainy weather.

Caltrans crews arrived to clean off the route, with officials later closing the highway in both directions for a time between Creek and Old Creek roads.

Lanes were reopened by 4:45 p.m., although northbound traffic remained backed up to around Foster Park as of 5 p.m., maps indicated.
