Muhlenberg stays alive in District 3 Class 5A playoffs with win over Lampeter-Strasburg

May 25—Muhlenberg will play for a berth in the PIAA Tournament after defeating Lampeter-Strasburg 8-3 in a District 3 Class 5A baseball consolation semifinal Thursday at Lancaster.

The eighth-seeded Muhls (15-9) will host 14th-seeded Shippensburg (13-9) — a 10-1 winner over Exeter Thursday — in the district fifth-place game, time to be announced. The winner will earn the district's final state playoff berth.

Muhlenberg scored two runs in the first and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. After the fifth-seeded Pioneers (15-8) scored one in the bottom of the third, the Muhls made it 6-1 in the fourth.

Lampeter-Strasburg again scored one in the fourth, but Muhlenberg answered with two more in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead.

Cameron Burr went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Sean Patton was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Gavin Moody was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for Muhlenberg. Eli Keller and Derek Wilson also knocked in runs for the Muhls.

Muhlenberg starter Dalton Follweiler threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.

The state berth is the Muhls' first since 2021.
