New Muleshoe mayor selected

May 4—MULESHOE — Colt Ellis was overwhelmingly selected Saturday as Muleshoe's next mayor.

Ellis, vice president and manager of Ellis Funeral Homes, was elevated from his District 1 city council position with the election, where he took 454 votes versus 109 from Erin Jo Gonzales.

The race to take Ellis' seat was won by Crystal Alarcon. She took 50 votes, versus 20 for Preston Scott Miller and Cory Contreras.

The election also covered a pair of Muleshoe Independent School District board elections. Steve Clifton won the District 1 position, claiming 204 votes to 53 for Jr. Martinez. The District 2 position was closer, with Sergio Leal taking 88 votes versus 52 for Lela Hancock Jones.
