What are the three critical issues facing the State?

Affordable Housing, Public School funding and Immigration and Border related issues.

Where do you stand on border policies? Is the border issue an immigration issue or a humanitarian issue?

The border issue is both an immigration and humanitarian issue. The increase in migration due to political unrest and gang violence have forced families, and unaccompanied children to flee to the Texas border. This has put a tremendous hardship on border towns with limited resources. Resolution between the Federal government and the state of Texas must be achieved to move forward on this issue. Recently the US Congress failed to pass a bipartisan immigration bill which demonstrates that Congress is playing politics with people lives and the security of Texas borders. This continues the decade long of inaction by Congress which has resulted in a dire situation.

Education in Texas — Where do you stand?

I'm a product of public-school education. The public schools are the center piece of many small to medium size towns in Texas. Public schools expand the opportunities for a cross section of the respective community. Some Texas republican leaders have received large financial contributions for supporting charter schools, which appears to be the key motivation for their support. Charter schools lack the accountabilities and educational resources that are currently in place with public schools. The value of public school cannot be measured. They provide employment opportunities for local residents, which stabilizes the economy for a town. Why would anyone want to get rid of 'Friday Night Lights?'

Would you support a school curriculum which allowed for increased vocational training that leads to a certification in a trade to meet the high demand for skilled employees for high school students?

There is a increased demand for skilled employees in various trades. By offering expanded vocational training in high schools, we can better align education with the needs of the job market. This ensures that students are well-prepared for real-world employment. These skills are essential for maintaining our infrastructure and supporting various industries. Pursuing a trade certification can be a cost-effective alternative to a four-year college degree.

What should be done about gun violence in Texas?

Addressing gun violence in Texas requires a multifaceted approach that combines education, policy change, and community collaboration. Semi-automatic rifles should not be sold. Allow the Courts to issue Protection Orders that remove firearms from individuals who pose a risk to themselves and others. Communities working with their local police department should support gun safety education and safe storage. Any new legislation would balance safety and individual rights.

Farming in one of the major industries of this district. What other industry should be considered in order to diversify and bring new jobs?

Texas is known for its vast open spaces and abundant sunshine. Developing solar and wind energy projects can create jobs in installation, maintenance, and manufacturing of renewable energy. Communities would be encouraged to leverage state incentives and collaborate with local economic development representatives to attract new industries and diversify your district's economy.

Are you aware of the problems in the State Foster Care system? Would you support a reorganization of the agency, as well as an increase in funding to hire more staff?

In summary, addressing the foster care systems will require a total commitment by the Legislature and state leaders to revamp this agency. Currently U.S. District Judge Janis Jack has been vocal about problems within the Texas foster care system. The system is in federal court due to the state's failure to care for the children. The agency will require a systematic approach, including reorganization, increased funding, and better support for staff. I would support a reorganization and a period of monitoring to ensure the agency is in compliance.

How do you intend to voice your concerns in the House?

Bipartisanship is essential. I will seek common ground with colleagues from both parties to find solutions. Building relationships fosters effective dialogue and problem-solving. Regular town hall meetings and communication with constituents keep me informed about their concerns. I will actively listen and represent their interests in the House.
