Multi-purpose home in Dennis with a fascinating history
632A Route 6A, a spacious four-bedroom home on the market for $589,000, is a multi-use condominium property that lives like a single-family home, said Terri Gordon, the house's listing agent.
Not only is this home multi-functional, it’s historic, too.
The history of 632A Route 6A:
According to the history of the home written by Phyllis Horton, archivist for the Dennis Historical Society, 632 Route 6A was the home of Nathan Stone Jr., who lived from 1766 to 1839. His parents, the Rev. Nathan Stone Sr. and Mary Cushing Stone, built it in 1787, where Stone Jr. lived until his death.
Stone Jr. seemed to have invented the term "man about town," serving 33 years as town clerk and treasurer of the east precinct for the town of Dennis, a justice of the peace and was the town’s first postmaster. His house, 632 Route 6A, served as Dennis’ first post office.
As if that wasn't enough, the historical society’s history of the house also said Stone Jr. was a noted housewright, a builder of wooden houses, and it is believed he built many historic homes throughout Dennis.
Stone Jr. is also credited with the invention of the jury selection box around 1811, which was used by Dennis town clerks to select jurors for court until 1987. (Head over to the Dennis Historical Society to see the original box!)
Fast forward to 2022, and the original home has been turned into a condominium, but that doesn’t mean the house is any less of a catch.
The house was split into two units in 2003, Gordon said. Unit A, which is currently for sale, can be used as either residential or business space, while Unit B is for businesses only.
Not only an antique with a fascinating history, 632A Route 6A has hot commodities for the Cape housing market, such as almost a full acre of land with back and front yards, well-maintained flooring and accents, and plenty of storage and closet space.
“This well-kept antique located in the heart of Dennis Village offers so many options,” Gordon said. “It can be a home, business, a retail shop, a summer getaway, or a spacious year-round home.”

Don’t be fooled by its technical status as a condo. There's no association fees usually found with condos for this property, just a monthly expense of $189 that includes trash, master insurance and the water bill.
For Gordon, its spaciousness, private backyard and proximity to Main Street Dennis and the ocean make this house a great catch.
“People sometimes have a negative connotation with condos, but this house really lives like a single-family home,” Gordon said. “It’s just a really neat house.”
