All lanes of I-35 in Johnson County reopen after crash creates rush hour traffic jam

All lanes of northbound Interstate 35 have reopened after a crash involving a semi and pickup truck caused traffic to back up for miles in Johnson County, according to Kansas City Scout.

The pickup and semi tractor-trailer collided shortly before 8:30 a.m. just past Johnson Drive along northbound I-35 in Merriam, said Trooper Tiffany Baylark, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Highway Patrol.

One of the drivers suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, she said.

The crash forced authorities to closed three lanes of the heavily traveled highway, allowing drivers through on one lane, Kansas City Scout traffic cameras showed.

The crash caused traffic to back up along I-35 beyond the 87th Street Parkway in Lenexa, according to Kansas City Scout. Traffic cameras showed vehicles inching along that stretch of the highway.

The crash was cleared about 10 a.m., KC Scout I-35 said on Twitter. Traffic along that stretch of highway in Johnson County has since returned to normal.
