Multi-vehicle crash in Tacoma leaves motorcyclist with serious injuries, police say

A multi-vehicle collision on South 21st Street and Tacoma Avenue has left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

At 12:30 p.m., a driver was traveling west on South 21st Street, Tacoma police spokesperson Wendy Haddow told The News Tribune. The driver failed to yield to a stop sign and then collided with a separate vehicle heading south on South Tacoma Avenue, causing it to roll over and strike a motorcyclist.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department units responded to a report of several vehicles colliding with one another. Tacoma police officers arrived on scene at 12:32.

At least two passengers in the vehicle that was hit were transported to a medical facility for injury assessments, Haddow says. The motorcyclist was is being treated for serious injuries.

The at-fault driver was not under the influence, Haddow says. She said the driver will be ticketed for failing to yield to the traffic sign.

As of the time of reporting, Tacoma police’s Collision Investigation Team and crime scene technicians were at the scene. South 21st Street remained shut down between South G Street and Fawcett Avenue. Tacoma Avenue is closed off between South 19th and 23rd streets.
