Multiple Agencies on Frontline Battle Against Glass Fire in Sonoma County
Fire crews in Northern California are continuing to battle the Glass Fire, which had grown to 56,781 acres – about 89 square miles – and was only 5 percent contained as of Thursday, October 1, according to Cal Fire.
The Alameda County Fire Department shared this footage of the firefight, posted on September 30, from the Calistoga/St. Helena area. The post said Alameda County was working with multiple agencies, including Fremont, Hayward and Oakland, and had been working for 72 hours consecutively.
“Crews are assigned to the Calistoga/St Helena region to save homes, wineries, and vineyards. While en route, firefighters are passing live fire to perform structure triage and to protect structures and livestock. They have been faced with extreme weather and fire behavior. With multiple fires working in the state, there is no relief in sight. Crew morale is good, and overall the community is very thankful,” the post continued.
The footage shows the fire burning along the roadside, and multiple structures on fire.
The Mercury News reported strong wind gusts and an October heat wave would add fuel to the fire. New evacuation orders were in place in the Calistoga area on Thursday.
The National Weather Service said the fire remained “extremely active” late on Wednesday night.
