Multiple closures of Interstate 25, U.S. Highway 34 lanes scheduled this week
Drivers will see impacts to Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 34 travel this week as part of the North I-25 Express Lanes project, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Crews will begin structure removal on the U.S. 34 bridge, requiring single-lane closures on I-25 at U.S. 34 from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday.
Once eastbound U.S. 34 traffic has been moved onto the new U.S. 34 bridge, crews will demolish the existing bridge.
The demolition will require a full closure of I-25 under U.S. 34 and U.S. 34 over I-25 from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday.
The eastbound U.S. 34 on-ramp to northbound I-25 will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.
Eastbound U.S. 34 to northbound I-25 traffic will continue east on U.S. 34 to Centerra Parkway. Turn north and continue north to Crossroads Boulevard. Then turn west on Crossroad Boulevard and continue onto northbound I-25.
I-25 traffic will be detoured using the U.S. 34 exit.
Westbound U.S. 34 traffic will be detoured north on I-25 to Exit 259 (Crossroads Boulevard). Turn west on Crossroads Boulevard and then continue south on I-25 to the U.S. 34 exit.
Eastbound U.S. 34 traffic will be detoured south on I-25 to Exit 255 (Colorado Highway 402). Turn east on Colorado 402 and continue north on I-25 to the U.S. 34 exit.
The renovation of the U.S. 34 and I-25 interchange was added to the North I-25 Express Lanes project in 2019 when an additional $300 million in funding was awarded to the project by the Colorado Transportation Commission.
The U.S. 34 interchange is being renovated with an additional through lane in each direction on U.S. 34 over I-25, reconfiguration of the on- and off-ramps and improved pedestrian access.
The interchange is expected to be completed by early fall.
A full closure of northbound I-25, between Harmony and Prospect roads, originally scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
The $750 million North I-25 Express Lanes project started in September 2018 and is expected be finished by the end of 2023.
