Driver cited after three-vehicle crash in Clay Twp.

A driver has been cited after injuring multiple in a three-vehicle crash in Clay Township Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 1:55 p.m., a three-vehicle crash occurred on state Route 49 near Sweet Potato Ridge Drive in Clay Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Clay Township police and Phillipsburg fire crews were called to a three-vehicle crash in the 10000 block of Dayton Greenville Pike, according to Montgomery County regional dispatch.

The initial investigation shows that a 56-year-old from Union was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima and a 50-year-old from Brookville was driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee northbound on state Route 49, when the Jeep ran into the back of the Nissan, the patrol said.

After the Jeep hit the Nissan, it traveled off the right side of the road. The Nissan was pushed into the southbound lane of SR 49 and was hit by a 31-year-old from Phillipsburg who was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox.

The Equinox traveled off the right side of the roadway into a ditch after hitting the Nissan.

Dispatch notes indicate that seven medics were called to the scene after reports of several injuries.

Both the drivers of the Jeep and Nissan were transported to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Equinox was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries, the patrol said.

The 50-year-old from Brookville was found to be at fault for the crash and was cited for assured clear distance ahead and distracted driving, the patrol said.

The crash is still under investigation.
