Multiple Lafayette facilities to have water wise landscaping

Sep. 20—The Lafayette Public Library is getting a xeriscape makeover.

In June, Lafayette started construction on one of Colorado largest xeriscape garden demonstrations at the Lafayette Fire Department Station No. 1, 401 111th St.

Construction at the Lafayette Public Library, 775 Baseline Road, has started. The first phase also includes City Hall, Lafayette Police Department and the fire department.

The xeriscape gardens will reduce water consumption and prioritize sustainability.

A Tuesday news release from Lafayette states that the original grass and vegetation will be replaced with water-wise alternatives to help "minimize water usage while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of these key locations."

Once the first phase of xeriscape projects are completed, the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, the Indian Peaks Golf Course Clubhouse, and the Lafayette Fire Department Station No. 2 will also have water wise landscaping projects.
