SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — Multiple people were injured in a shooting at a Spring Valley residence Saturday evening, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to FOX 5.

Authorities received reports of shots fired around 8:15 p.m. in the 9000 block of Ildica Street. Witnesses told deputies there was a birthday party at a house when they suddenly heard gunshots coming from the backyard.

Deputies say five adults were wounded by gunshots, while two juveniles sustained minor burns from fireworks.

One adult, described as a 26-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition, SDSO said.

The other four adults — a 27-year-old woman, 30-year-old woman, 30-year-old man and 35-year-old man — and the two teenage boys were also taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

According to SDSO, deputies searched the area for the shooters while other deputies provided first aid to those who were injured. A sheriff’s K-9 handler and ASTREA helicopter also helped in looking for possible suspects.

“At this time, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public,” SDSO stated in a press release Sunday afternoon. The suspect or suspects in the incident remain at large, according to SDSO.

Authorities held a perimeter around the scene for several hours, including road closures. Some nearby homes appeared to be briefly evacuated, residents told FOX 5.

“This is like a big deal to happen on this street,” a 16-year-old resident told FOX 5 after the shooting on Saturday. “It’s a very quiet street.”

On Sunday, FOX 5 returned to the area to talk with additional neighbors that heard the shooting unfold. However, some were concerned to speak on-camera, expressing fearing threats to their safety.

“I was outside when I hear very loud nearby gunshots and fireworks, I was very confused,” said one resident of the area, Lorena, who was at home when the shots rang out. She asked that her last name be withheld by FOX 5 for her protection. “There were three guys running this way on the street and the one in the back had a gun.”

Another long-time resident of the neighborhood said that security video from their home that caught the shooting, describing the sounds as a “war zone.” However, the homeowner declined to give FOX 5 permission to publish the footage.

FOX 5 reviewed the video with the homeowner, hearing what sounded like about 17 shots fired in the background. Although, authorities would not verify the exact number.

“I was just scared … It’s normally a safe neighborhood,” Lorena continued. “It feels weird that is something you would see in a movie, you wouldn’t see it up close in front of you.”

California Highway Patrol, the San Diego Police Department and National City Police Department also responded to the incident alongside SDSO.

No further details were released. An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting, including possible cell phone video and/or photos or surveillance video in the area, is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
