Multiple people treated for heat-related illness at Arizona Jazz Festival

Above average temperatures in Phoenix left one woman hospitalized and several others treated for heat-related illnesses at the Arizona Jazz Festival on Saturday.

Around 3:38 p.m., the Phoenix Fire Department was called to the festival near 53rd Avenue and High Street where they treated two initial patients, Capt. Scott Douglas said.

One woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, he said. Several others concerned with heat illness asked that their vital signs be checked.

Douglas said all others were found to be in stable condition and refused further treatment.

He added that the Phoenix Fire Department would stay at the festival for the day in case there were any more heat-related illnesses.

Saturday in Phoenix saw sunny skies but near record high temperatures of 99 degrees, an above average high for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday was expected to see a high of 94 degrees with a low of 68 degrees.

Monday was expected to cool with a high of 88 degrees and a nightly low of 65.

The Arizona Jazz Festival was scheduled to continue from 1:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
