Multiple suspects arrested in connection with 2021 shooting in Ventura park
Ventura authorities have arrested multiple suspects in connection with a shooting at Ocean Avenue Park last year, where a man was shot five times after reportedly being lured to the site.
The attempted murder investigation lasted about a year and a half and led to the seizure of multiple firearms last week, including an AK-47 assault weapon, according to the Ventura Police Department.
The incident had been reported shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2021, at the small neighborhood park at 1590 Ocean Ave. in Ventura's midtown area.
The victim, then a 35-year-old Ventura resident, suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities said at the time. No update on his condition was available Wednesday.
On July 6 and 7, Ventura police served multiple search warrants that led to a half-dozen arrests.

Ventura resident Enrique Medel, 41, has since been charged by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office with attempted murder, felony conspiracy, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and felony participation in a criminal street gang, along with special enhancements. Medel, whose last name is listed as Medell in Ventura County Superior Court records, has not yet entered a plea. His arraignment is scheduled to continue on the afternoon of July 29 in courtroom 13.
Medel was also charged with felony possession of an assault weapon and a large-capacity magazine in connection with his arrest on July 6, court records show. He remained in Ventura County jail Wednesday with bail set at $850,000, jail records showed.
Four other Ventura men, three in their 20s and one 39, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. All have been released from custody on bail bonds, records show.
A sixth Ventura man, 25, was arrested on suspicion of having brass knuckles, police officials said.
