Muncie man dies in Marion motorcycle crash

MARION, Ind. — A Muncie man was killed in a Grant County motorcycle crash after leading officers from two departments on a chase.

Garrett William Gaddis, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, about 9 p.m. Friday, on Ind. 9 north of 16th Street in Marion.

According to Indiana State Police, Gaddis' Ducati motorcycle struck a Chrysler Pacifica, driven by a Marion man, as it pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store.

That motorist and a passenger in his car were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Marion Health Hospital.

A short time earlier, Grant County sheriff's deputies had tried to pull over Gaddis' motorcycle, which was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on Ind. 9 near Marion Municipal Airport.

The deputies later abandoned the ensuing chase, However, Marion police then observed the motorcycle speeding on the state highway near 30th Street, and were giving chase when the fatal crash occurred.

State police are investigating the fatality.
