Muncie Symphony Orchestra 'Holiday Pops' to feature festive music, Santa, free kids' tickets

MUNCIE — Muncie Symphony Orchestra invites families to ring in the holiday season with its Indiana Trust Pops Series “Holiday Pops” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in Emens Auditorium

“Holiday Pops” will feature a mix of modern and classic Christmas songs, including selections from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “The Polar Express,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “White Christmas” and more. The show will also include a playing of the short film “The Snowman,” with live accompaniment by the orchestra.

Muncie Symphony Orchestra will be joined onstage by Ball State voice faculty and accomplished opera performers Jon and Elizabeth Truitt, as well as the Youth Symphony Orchestra of East Central Indiana. Santa will be there as well.

Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased online at munciesymphony.org or via the Emens Box Office (in person at 1800 W Riverside Ave. or by phone at 765-285-1539). Free kids’ tickets are available with the purchase of adult tickets; to learn more, visit munciesymphony.org/kids-tickets.

Hillcroft Services will provide free shuttle services between the McKinley Avenue and New York Avenue parking garages and the auditorium before and after the show for those in need. The shuttle will run for one hour before the show and 30 minutes after the show.

Exchange Club to present 'Flags of Honor' funds

MUNCIE — On Thursday, December 2, the Exchange Club will have its meeting at the Buley Center. A meal, meeting, and presentation of $4m000 raised at Flags of Honor is planned.

Exchange Club of Muncie supports local charities and organizations trying to improve Muncie and Delaware County.

Ball State Opera to present 'Amahl and the Night Visitors'

MUNCIE — The Ball State Opera Theatre, in collaboration with First Presbyterian Church, will present "Amahl and the Night Visitors" at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and 3 p.m. Dec. 4 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Riverside Ave.

Gian Carlo Menotti’s "Amahl and the Night Visitors" is a retelling of the nativity story and the journey of the Magi from the point of view of Amahl and his mother, who are on the brink of poverty. Performed in English in one 45-minute act, the opera was originally written for television and premiered on Christmas Eve 1951, according to a release.

General admission is $15, student tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door, senior tickets are $13 and BSU faculty and staff tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased at the door or ahead of time by going to bsu.edu/music/events or contacting the College of Fine Arts Box Office, noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, at 765-285-8749.
