The chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen hopes to end Russia's war against Ukraine through negotiations, he told Funke Mediengruppe, Tagesschau reported on Feb. 8.

The war "should not end as it did in World War I, with hundreds of thousands of deaths,” he stated.

"Therefore, it is right to think about how to reach a negotiated solution.”

Heusgen believes that it is "certainly" possible to use the Minsk agreements "as a guide".

The MSC chair also cited the statements of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi that the frontline is a stalemate, like in World War I.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are out of the question.

At the G20 summit in November 2022, Zelenskyy presented a ten-point peace formula, which includes, among other things, the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian troops, the release of all prisoners, a tribunal for those responsible for aggression, and security guarantees for Ukraine.

The first meeting on the peace formula took place in Copenhagen, and later in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The third meeting on the Ukrainian peace formula was held on Oct. 28-29 at the level of advisors to the heads of state in Malta.
