Municipal authority repairs water main break affecting Pottsville residents

Sep. 22—The Schuylkill County Municipal Authority has remedied a water main break that occurred Tuesday on Railroad Street in Pottsville.

The municipal authority had announced Tuesday that Pottsville area residents may experience temporarily discolored water due to a "significant" break on Railroad Street, one of the main feeds into Pottsville.

Executive Director Patrick M. Caulfield said the main was repaired by 9 p.m. Tuesday and that residents should expect their water services to be restored with little to no discoloration.

Workers had been dispatched to the scene around 1 p.m. Tuesday, immediately after being notified of the break.

"Crews continued to work through the night to clear up any discoloration," Caulfield said.

The water main break affected customers in the authority's Broad Mountain and Indian Run reservoir systems.

"No boil advisory has been issued since we were able to isolate the leak prior to depressurizing the area," Caulfield said.

The authority had announced on Tuesday that it would directly contact any customers who were required to boil their water.

Caulfield said the authority has installed hydrants and blow-off systems along the affected water lines to continue to treat the discoloration.
