Munson Healthcare announces the opening of the new Elmira Occupational Health and Medicine Clinic on March 6 at 2572 U.S. 131.

GAYLORD — The new Elmira Occupational Health and Medicine Clinic from Munson Healthcare will open this week in the building at 2572 U.S. 131 that used to house the family practice health center.

"We work with area employers to treat (worker's compensation) injuries, pre-employment drug testing and physicals," said Jennifer Carter, clinic manager.

The clinic will also provide work injury treatment and follow-up care, screening services including blood-borne pathogen surveillance, breath alcohol testing, and pulmonary function testing.

"We knew there was a need with the employers out there. Right now (occupational medicine) was being run out the walk-in clinic in Gaylord," Carter said. "We thought this would be a good location to meet the needs of area employers and their employees."

"We can take care of minor sprains, back pain, and simple laceration repairs," she added.

The clinic hours will be from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, clinic hours will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Carter said the clinic will be staffed by a physician assistant. Dr. Darryl Lesoski, an occupational-environmental medicine specialist, will also rotate through the clinic.

The occupational health and medicine unit is part of the new Elmira Specialty Clinics.

"We are hoping in the future to have different specialty clinics for community access out there," said Carter.
