Muppets Mayhem boss details hopes for Marvel-style "Muppetverse"

The Muppets are back on Disney+ with a brand-new series – but this time, it's the musically minded members of Electric Mayhem who are taking the spotlight.
Dr Teeth, Floyd, Zoot, Lips, Janice, and of course, Animal have launched onto the streaming service in The Muppets Mayhem.
However, the show's co-creators Adam F Goldberg, Jeff Yorkes, and Bill Barretta have hopes for even more Muppet-centric content in the future and have unveiled plans for their very own "Muppetverse".

Chatting about The Muppets Mayhem in a recent interview, Goldberg suggested the show could be the starting point for a wider collection of stories from the world of everyone's favourite puppets.
"Jeff, Bill, and I have very lofty dreams that Disney starts this Muppetverse where it's just like Marvel or Star Wars, this web of movies and specials and animation," he told Gizmodo. "We would love to help them do that.
"But if you're going to do that – they started just with Iron Man, right? So for us, it was like, we're just doing a show about the band; let's focus on this one very specific corner of the Muppet Universe.

"Let's show Disney and the audience there's whole backstories here and we just want you to fall in love with this band.
"Let's not worry about anybody else. And from there, let's now kind of branch out and do even more. So that was always our idea.
"In fact, we were kind of more excited about introducing new Muppet characters. That was always a goal for us."

This isn't the first Muppets project to premiere on Disney's streaming service, as The Muppets Now saw Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the gang star in the six-part comedy series.
As for any cinematic outings, The Muppets last hit the silver screen in 2014 with Muppets Most Wanted.
The Muppets Mayhem is available on Disney+ now.
