Murder arrest made in September homicide near Hope Mills

A Fayetteville man wanted in a September homicide in the county was arrested Thursday after he was spotted by an off-duty deputy at a Hope Mills shopping center, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Jamal Robinson, 27, of Cumberland Road, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the Sept. 26 shooting death of Jermaine Hailey, 32, of Raeford.

The warrant was issued for Robinson two days after Hailey, was shot multiple times just before midnight in the 2600 block of Belhaven Road, the Sheriff's Office said.

Lt. Patrice Bogertey said he was arrested after an off-duty deputy shopping at the Village Shopping Center in Hope Mills spotted Robinson there and knew of the warrant. She said that three other men sought for questioning were cleared in the case.

Robinson is being held in the Cumberland County jail without bail.
