The Hong Kong murder suspect who triggered mass protests over a botched extradition bill issued a public apology as he was released from jail on October 23, 2019. 

Chan Tong-kai had spent 18 months incarcerated for money laundering, but is suspected of murdering his pregnant girlfriend in Taiwan.
