Murder trial on track for August

Apr. 18—GREENUP — Two people who have been in Greenup County's jail on murder charges since January were in circuit court on Thursday for a pre-trial conference.

Sebastian Joy, who is representing both Christopher "Clay" Stiltner and Rachel Waddell, requested another pre-trial for the near future, to which Judge Brian McCloud suggested June 27. All of the pre-trial conferences are leading up to an Aug. 19 trial date.

Stiltner and Waddell are implicated in the murder of 5-year-old Aubrey Stowers, who died in June 2023 at a Wurtland home. Back in January, a grand jury found probable cause based on evidence from a thorough criminal investigation.

Waddell is Aubrey's biological mother. She was Stiltner's girlfriend at the time of Aubrey's death.

Both Waddell and Stiltner are still in the Greenup County Detention Center, each on a $200,000 bond.

They'll be back in court in late June.
