SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Authorities say prosecutors are weighing charges in connection to a drunk driving crash in Murray on Tuesday that killed a motorcyclist.

Murray police on Friday identified the motorcyclist as 37-year-old Christian Shupe, of Murray. He died at the scene of the crash, the intersection of 5900 South and State Street.

According to investigators, Shupe was traveling south on State Street that evening when a northbound Nissan Juke turned left into the intersection and struck him.

The driver of the Nissan, Catherine Thulin, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

According to a probable cause affidavit, she told police she’d been drinking that day, stating she had a “couple of beers out of a 15 pack.” Extensive front-end damage could be seen on her vehicle.

Officers had her perform field sobriety tests, and she displayed signs of impairment, the affidavit states. She later blew a 0.206 on a breath test.

Police said charges of DUI, negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death, and alcohol restricted driver are being screened by the district attorney’s office.

As of Friday, Thulin was in Salt Lake County Jail, according to online roster records.
