Comedy night will benefit trail projects

An evening of stand-up comedy next month will benefit Westmoreland Heritage Trail and Five Star Trail projects.

It will be from 6-10 p.m. Feb. 10 at Colton Hall, 3100 Blocks Road in Penn Township's Claridge neighborhood. The $35 ticket includes food, 50/50 drawings, basket auctions, a cash bar and more. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are only available to those 21 and older.

Purchase tickets at The Lamplighter on Route 22 in Salem; at Ginny's Neighborhood Pizza Joint on Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville; at Parkside Perk on Forbes Road in Trafford; or at the Westmoreland County Parks office on North Main Street in Greensburg.

Hauling discount for seniors

Murrysville and Delmont officials remind senior residents that a small discount is available on trash hauling services for senior citizens.

Upcoming library events

The Murrysville Community Library will host the following upcoming programs:

—Make Your Own Valentines adult craft, 1 p.m. Feb. 1. A staff member from Creative Memories will guide a craft project to make homemade Valentine's Day cards. Participants will create three cards. Registration required.

—Calypso: A Taste of Island Mardi Gras, 1 p.m. Feb. 3. Author and flutist Gemma Stemley will play selections of Caribbean calypso music followed by a Mardi Gras celebration.

—Western Pennsylvania Passenger Rail Service: Recent History and Latest Developments, 10 a.m. Feb. 28, with speaker Mark Spada, president of Western Pennsylvanians for Passenger Rail. Spada will review the region's passenger rail history beginning shortly before the creation of Amtrak.

Tax help at Delmont library

Beginning Jan. 22, associates from Westmoreland Community Action Center will be at the Delmont Public Library to help residents with their income tax returns every Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

'Brawl in the Burgh 20'

247 Fighting Championships will host an evening of mixed martial arts, "Brawl in the Burgh 20," on Feb. 24 at the Murrysville SportZone.

Tickets range from $50 to $115.

Rotary plastic collection ongoing

The Murrysville-Export Rotary Club is continuing to collect plastic to be remade into public benches placed throughout Murrysville and Export. So far eight benches have been placed in six locations.

Collection points for plastic include the Murrysville municipal building lobby and the Murrysville library, both on Sardis Road; First Presbyterian Church's Laird Hall, 3202 North Hills Road in Murrysville; ProTrucks and Virgin Flooring, both on Route 22; Completely Booked in the Blue Spruce Shoppes; Franco's Expert Nails and the Rewind Reuse Center, both on Washington Avenue in Export; Friends Thrift Shop on Old William Penn Highway.

Plastic film, stretch wrap, and shopping bags can be donated.
