Symphony East hosts Franklin Regional musical highlights

The Symphony East will present an April 17 program of highlights from Franklin Regional Senior High School's production of "Grease."

Craft and vendor show at Union Presbyterian

Union Presbyterian Church will host an April 15 craft and vendor show. It will include woodworking artists, a wreath wrapper, stained glass crafter, cross-stitch, flower and plant vendors and more.

It will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 656 Route 380 in Washington Township.

Woman's club to host art show in Murrysville

The Murrysville Woman's Club art show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 21, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 at Redstone Highlands, 4951 Cline Hollow Road in Murrysville.

Entries are $5 per piece for adults and $2 for students, up to three entries; forms are due April 14 and can be sent to Lane Neff, 117 Hay Lane, Murrysville, Pa., 15668. Checks can be made out to the Murrysville Woman's Club. Diane Murray will judge the show.

Murrysville local access channel changed

Comcast has changed the channel that broadcasts local-access programming for Murrysville residents. It is now Channel 21 instead of Channel 19.

Municipal meetings are livestreamed along with other local programming and event listings.

Girls' computer camp set for June

Franklin Regional officials will host the "Girls Own Awesome Technology," or G.O.A.T. camp for girls in grades 6-9 interested in computer science and coding.

Participants can learn Java, Scratch, JavaScript, Python and cyber-security concepts and explore a career in computer science. It will be June 5-9 with sessions running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Franklin Regional Senior High School (Room 227), 3200 School Road in Murrysville.

Library hosts program on straw-bale gardening

The Murrysville library will host the first in a series of Penn State Master Gardener talks on April 25. The topic will be straw bale gardening. Additional programs will take place May 23 (pollinator-friendly gardens) and May 30 (attracting butterflies to your garden).

Learn how to prepare bales and provide a constant fertilizer for growing vegetables, herbs and flowers. It will be at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 4130 Sardis Road. Register at MurrysvilleLibrary.org or by calling 724-327-1102.

Youth Day at North Huntingdon gun club

The White Oak Rod and Gun Club will host its annual Youth Day on June 17 for boys and girls ages 10-18.

The event will include a full day of learning the shooting disciple for an air rifle, .22 pistol and rifle, shotgun, high-powered rifle, black powder rifle and an archery bow.

Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes. Sandals are not appropriate. A baseball cap is also recommended. All firearms and ammunition will be provided — do not bring your own.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the programs will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the club, 600 Skellytown Road in North Huntingdon. Registration is open until June 3.

Int'l Women to meet April 14

The International Women group's next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. April 14 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Monroeville.

The featured speaker will be Penn State Extension Master Gardener Marilyn Germansky giving a presentation titled "Small Spaces: Can I Fit That Container Here?"

The church is at 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville. All women from the community, whether American or foreign-born, is invited to attend.

The church's babysitting service has been suspended until further notice.

Chili cook-off in Delmont

The Delmont Recreation Committee will host an April 16 chili cook-off at Newhouse Park.

It will be at 12:30 p.m. at the park pavilion, off Stotler Road in Delmont. The cost is a $10 donation per person. Everyone in attendance will vote for their favorite, with prizes for the top three finishers.
