Artist presentation focuses on culinary herbs

Murrysville artist Eileen Yeager will give a presentation at the Murrysville Community Library on "Ethnic Use of Culinary Herbs."

Yeager's "World of Herbs" exhibit, which will remain on display at the library for the month of March, explores different countries and how they use local herbs in their cooking.

The presentation will be at 6 p.m. March 6 at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville. There is no cost to attend.

In Yeager's exhibit, framed pieces represent individual countries alongside individual herb etchings. Cards and smaller reproductions of her work will also be available for sale.

Garden club to host speaker series

The Murrysville Garden Club will host a series of speakers this spring throughout the municipality. Programs will include:

—March 23: "Wool Dying and Spinning," presented by Millie Sass at the Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road.

—April 27: "Herb Growing and Harvesting," presented by Ellen Marsilli at the First United Methodist Church, 3916 Old William Penn Highway.

—May 25: "Westmoreland Conservation District," presented by Jen Novak at the Murrysville library.

All programs will start at 10:30 a.m., and are open to the public.

Owl prowl at Morosini Reserve

The Westmoreland Conservancy will host an "owl prowl" event at 8 p.m. March 3 at the reserve, on Morosini Farm Court in Murrysville.

The group walk will be led by Westmoreland Bird & Nature Club President Alex Busato. In case of rain, the event will be held at the same time on March 4. Please note when entering the parking lot that the house on the right is not part of the reserve.

There is no cost to attend, but anyone interested is asked to register at WestmorelandConservancy.org/event-registration.

FR Class of '73 organizing 50th reunion

The Franklin Regional Senior High School Class of 1973 is organizing its 50th reunion for this coming October.

It is planned for Oct. 8 at the Antonelli Event Center, 100 Colony Drive in Irwin.

Int'l Women to meet March 3

The Rejoice Ensemble, led by Nancy Xlao, will be the featured guests at the March 3 meeting of the International Women group. It will be at 9 a.m. at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville.

The ensemble performs using traditional Chinese musical instruments.

All women in the community are invited to join, whether foreign- or American-born.

The church's babysitting program has been suspended until further notice due to covid-19 restrictions.

Delmont texting service

Delmont residents are now able to opt into an SMS messaging service to receive text messages from the borough about upcoming events as well as emergency alerts.

Residents are required to opt in if they wish to join or both lists. The system is not monitored, and anyone with questions is asked to call the borough office at 724-468-4422.
