Craft and vendor show at Union Presbyterian

Union Presbyterian Church will host an April 15 craft and vendor show. It will include woodworking artists, a wreath wrapper, stained glass crafter, cross-stitch, flower and plant vendors and more.

It will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 656 Route 380 in Washington Township.

Murrysville local access channel changed

Comcast has changed the channel that broadcasts local-access programming for Murrysville residents. It is now Channel 21 instead of Channel 19.

Municipal meetings are livestreamed along with other local programming and event listings.

Youth Day at North Huntingdon gun club

The White Oak Rod and Gun Club will host its annual Youth Day on June 17 for boys and girls ages 10-18.

The event will include a full day of learning the shooting disciple for an air rifle, .22 pistol and rifle, shotgun, high-powered rifle, black powder rifle and an archery bow.

Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes. Sandals are not appropriate. A baseball cap is also recommended. All firearms and ammunition will be provided — do not bring your own.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the programs will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the club, 600 Skellytown Road in North Huntingdon. Registration is open until June 3.

AAUW speaker will discuss Saxonburg founders

The American Association of University Women's Murrysville branch will host guest speaker Rennick Steele at 10 a.m. April 13 at the Murrysville Community Library, to discuss John Roebling, one of the founders of Saxonburg.

Roebling immigrated from Prussia to western Pennsylvania in 1831 with his brother. Together they founded Saxonburg and operated a farm. In 1841, Roebling began manufacturing wife rope, an innovation employed in the design and construction of suspension bridges including the Smithfield Street Bridge in Pittsburgh and the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.

Steele is a recipient of the Arthur St. Clair Award from the Westmoreland Historical Society for his writing of historical dramas depicting life on the Pennsylvania frontier.

Int'l Women to meet April 14

The International Women group's next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. April 14 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Monroeville.

The featured speaker will be Penn State Extension Master Gardener Marilyn Germansky giving a presentation titled "Small Spaces: Can I Fit That Container Here?"

The church is at 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville. All women from the community, whether American or foreign-born, is invited to attend.

The church's babysitting service has been suspended until further notice.

Speaker to discuss emergency preparedness

The Mother of Sorrows "Boomers & Beyond" series will host speaker and Monroeville fireman James Thomas at its April 11 meeting.

Thomas has been involved in public safety since 1978 and served as a paramedic since 1984. He is an EMS, fire and rescue instructor, and will give a presentation on being prepared in an emergency situation.

The talk will be at noon April 11 at Mother of Sorrows, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

Participants may bring a bag lunch and a friend. Beverages are provided.

Upcoming Delmont library events

The Delmont Public Library will host the following events at 75 School Street, except where otherwise indicated.

—Westmoreland Pollinator Partners, 6:30 p.m. April 12. The group will give a presentation on creating pollinator-friendly gardens and building a diverse backyard ecosystem.

—Toddler story time, 10 a.m. April 13. Bring a blanket and stuffed animal. For children ages 18 months to 3 years old.

—Hatha yoga for teens, 4 p.m. April 13. This is a weekly program meeting on Thursdays through June 1. Hatha yoga is a way of stretching, bending, balancing and relaxing the body with the help of breathing. Bring a yoga mat, block or towel. For ages 12-20.

A separate Hatha yoga program for adults will meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, from April 12 to May 31.

—Gardening program, 6:30 p.m. April 17. Nancy Neel from Sunny Sprouts Greenhouse in West Newton will host a presentation on gardening and new perennials for 2023, and will have plants for sale.

—Baby Lap Sit, 11:30 a.m. April 20. Families and caregivers are invited to bring children from five to 17 months old for an afternoon of songs, rhymes and stories.

—Sphero Squadron class, 11:30 a.m. April 22. Sphero robots are globe-shaped bots that can be controlled by a tablet. The program, for children ages 9-14, will show how to use them to accomplish different tasks.

—Bee Bots, 10 a.m. April 22. Learn about Bee Bots, designed specifically for use by children. The presentation, for children ages 4-9, teaches basic programming and problem solving.

Chili cook-off in Delmont

The Delmont Recreation Committee will host an April 16 chili cook-off at Newhouse Park.

It will be at 12:30 p.m. at the park pavilion, off Stotler Road in Delmont. The cost is a $10 donation per person. Everyone in attendance will vote for their favorite, with prizes for the top three finishers.
