Murrysville area: Plant sale, used book sale, National Day of Prayer and more

Apr. 20—Plant sale in Murrysville

The Murrysville Garden Club will host its annual plant sale at 11 a.m. May 10 at the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Department pavilion on Sardis Road.

The club will sell annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and patio pots, and club members will also be selling propagated plants, second-hand tools, garden decor and handmade crafts.

Proceeds will benefit the club's scholarship program. Club members meet at 10:30 a.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month, March through November, at the Murrysville Community Library.

AAUW book sale set for April 27-29

The Murrysville chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Murrysville Community Library will host their annual book sale April 27-29 at the library, 4130 Sardis Road.

It will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 27-28, and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29.

National Day of Prayer set for May 4

The Delmont Volunteer Fire Department and local churches from Delmont, Export and Murrysville will host a National Day of Prayer celebration, at 7 p.m. May 4.

The theme for 2023 is "Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much." The day encourages prayer for family, church, business, education, military, government and arts/media. In addition to prayer led by local pastors, there will be a presentation of the U.S. flag, the Pledge of Allegiance and worship music.

It will be at the VFD, 2360 Route 66 in Delmont.

Photographer featured at ESAL meeting

The East Suburban Artists League will host featured speaker and photographer Alexis Dillon at its May 4 meeting.

Dillon has been a photographer for four decades, specializing in black-and-white and infrared images. She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in visual arts and photography instruction. After teaching public high school for more than three decades, Dillon is now concentrating on her own work.

Craft fair at library

The Murrysville Community Library will host a May 6 craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It will include handmade jewelry, home decor, candles, wreaths, knitted and crocheted items, wood crafts, coffee, chocolates and more.

Some vendor spaces ($30) are still available. Vendors must bring their own folding table.

Library speaker explores remote corners of Tanzania, Uganda

The Murrysville chapter of the American Association of University Women will host featured speakers Rob Brown and his daughter Ursula. Brown is a medical doctor and author of "Toxic Home/Conscious Home," which focuses on eliminating toxins as well as the potential effects of things like radiation from household items like microwaves, cell phones and wireless routers.

The program will take place in the Tech Nook at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville.

Input sought for Delmont transportation plan

The Delmont Visionary Committee is seeking public input from borough residents to develop an active transportation plan.

The plan would improve all modes of transportation including walking, biking and driving. An online community survey and interactive map program can be accessed at DelmontBoro.com.

Input is requested by April 30.

Garden club scholarship applications available

The Murrysville Garden Club is seeking applicants for its annual scholarship program. Applicants must be current or former Franklin Regional seniors with the intention of studying horticulture, landscape architecture, conservation, forestry, botany, agriculture, environmental science or a related field as part of a two- or four-year program.

The deadline to apply is May 12. Applications are available at MurrysvilleGardenClub.com/scholarships.

'Comedy for a Cause' set for April 29

The "Comedy for a Cause" event to benefit the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania will be held at 7 p.m. April 29 in North Huntingdon.

It will include comedians Teresa Logan and Phil Hughes, and will be at Elements, 3000 Commerce Loop in North Huntingdon.

The cost is $50 and includes a 7 p.m dinner buffet, the show at 7:30 p.m. and a dessert table.

There will be a cash bar. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Association of University People's club for single college graduates will host an April 29 dinner at Napoli Restaurant, 1273 Washington Pike in Bridgeville.
