Murrysville area: Trail festival, musical tribute to veterans, free youth orchestra concert and more

Westmoreland Heritage Trail Community Festival

The annual Westmoreland Heritage Trail Community Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3 in Trafford, and this year will include a poker run.

In addition to basket raffles, a DJ, fishing for kids, food vendors, ice cream, face-painting and more, the festival will include a poker run, where participants can stop at checkpoints along the trail on a 12-mile bike ride or 4-mile walk/run, and choose a playing card. The best hands at the end will receive prizes.

Registration prior to May 26 is $25 per person. Day-of registration is $30, and begins at 9 a.m. The poker run will begin at 10 a.m., with awards ceremonies and raffles at noon.

B-Y Park is at 812 Route 130 in Trafford. Additional parking is available across the street at Christian Life Church.

'Strengthening the Thin Blue Line' service

Murrysville Alliance Church will host a "Strengthening the Thin Blue Line" service in tribute to local police officers at 11 a.m. May 21.

It will be at the church, 4130 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. All members of law enforcement and their families are invited to attend.

History, fun in Export

The Export Historical Society will open the Train Station Museum from 1-3 p.m. May 13 for visitors. Society members will be on hand to show areas of the museum that are not open during regular hours.

In addition, the second annual "Blow Up Export" inflatable costume race will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Registration for the race starts at 10:30 a.m. with the race at noon along Washington Avenue. Racers must supply their own costumes.

The cost is $15 per racer, and proceeds will benefit the Moose Heart Charity. The afternoon will also include a 50/50 drawing and raffles.

International Women club to host spring luncheon

The International Women club will host its annual spring luncheon at 11 a.m. May 19 in Monroeville.

All members are encouraged to bring a dish to share at the final meeting of the 2022-2023 year. Meetings will resume in September, and take place at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville.

All women from the community, whether American or foreign-born, are invited to attend.

'Ladies Day Out' in Export

The Export Moose will host a "Ladies Day Out" event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21 in its parking lot, 5903 Washington Avenue.

The afternoon will include crafters, vendors, food and music.

'Muffins with Mom' at Delmont library

The Delmont Public Library will host a "Muffins with Mom" event at 10 a.m. May 13 at the library.

Children and mothers are invited to enjoy muffins, stories and gift-making. The event is for children ages 2-10. Registration is required at DelmontLibrary.org.

The library is at 75 School Street in Delmont.

Veteran tribute at Symphony East

Symphony East will host a veteran tribute performance, "Letters from the Front, Words of Warriors," at 1 p.m. May 15.

Actual letters from veterans will be read while musicians Donna Groom, Rick Purcell and Mark Groom perform music from various wartime periods. It will be at the Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem.

A $10 donation is requested.

Opus 2 Orchestra concludes season with free concert

The Opus 2 Orchestra will perform its final concert of the season at 3 p.m. May 6 at Christian Life Church, 900 Seventh Street Extension in Trafford.

The theme will be "Opus 2 Goes to the Movies," featuring music from Hollywood cinema under the direction of Evan Reichenfeld. The orchestra includes students from the Franklin Regional, Gateway, Norwin, Plum, Woodland Hills and Penn-Trafford school districts along with students from Ensign Peak Academy and 21st Century Cyber School.

The concert is free, and a voluntary donation is requested to help support the orchestra's expenses.
