Muses & Patroness Circle of the McCallum Theatre holds annual membership tea

A slight drizzle of rain did not dampen the spirits of members and guests at the Muses & Patroness Circle of the McCallum Theatre annual membership tea & meeting. Attendees were escorted by an umbrella-holding gentleman into the beautiful home of DeAnn Mix to rekindle friendships, meet new members and learn about the exciting activities planned for the upcoming season.

As the rain subsided, invitees were treated to a colorful rainbow in the sky above the expansive back yard.

The Muses & Patroness Circle is the fundraising group of McCallum Theatre, and since its inception 35 years ago it has contributed funds to benefit McCallum Theatre Education. The education provides children from across the valley and high desert the opportunity to attend world-class theater, dance and musical performances at the McCallum and in their schools.

Approximately 40,000 students and teachers participate in the McCallum Theatre Education experiences each year.

Event guests enjoyed delectable tea sandwiches and sweets while sipping sparkling wine and listening to the music of DJ Modgirl. Muses membership co-chair Karen Ackland greeted the boisterous ladies and applauded them for braving the rain and thanked the event committee members Joyce Dawson, Nancy Robinson, Julia Spira and Robyn Fuchs and the McCallum Theatre staff for their unwavering support.

Muses president June Benson summarized the upcoming December holiday brunch at Indian Ridge Country Club and the annual fundraiser: How Sweet it Is! in February at the Vintage Country Club. Benson thanked McCallum Theatre Education vice president Kajsa Thuresson-Frary for her efforts with the successful Palm Desert Choreography Festival. Since 1998, the festival has presented 704 original pieces of choreography and awarded more than $690,000 in prize money.

McCallum Theatre President And Artistic Director Mitch Gershenfeld highlighted the current season of productions and reminded the crowd of the Dec. 1 McCallum Theatre annual gala honoring Brooke Koehler and featuring Matteo Bocelli with an 80-poiece symphony orchestra conducted by Beatrice Venzi with special guest vocalist Pia Toscano.
