Fifteen country singers set out this NFL season to score bragging rights as the biggest pro football nerd on Music Row.

A month later, only four artists remain.

Let's get into where things stand heading into week five of the Music City Survivor League.

Who's out: Granger Smith, the "Backroad Song" artist who put his fate in the Detroit Lions to beat Gino Smith's Seattle Seahawks. He came close to surviving another week, but the Lions lost despite scoring 45 points (because, duh, it's the Lions).

Who's undefeated: Lainey Wilson, still! This Louisiana native may not be merely one of the fastest-rising talents in Nashville - she could be one of the town's slickest pro football pickers, as well. She's four-for-four, scoring her latest win after the Arizona Cardinals topped Baker Mayfield's Carolina Panthers.

Up this week: Could the Pittsburgh Steelers and rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett pull off an improbable upset against the Bills? Two survivors - Brooke Eden and Mitchell Tenpenny - better hope not. It seems like a safe bet, but after the Colts upset the Chiefs two weeks ago and wiped out nearly half the league, who knows? After all, placing bets would be easy if betters knew the winner ahead of time.

Mitchell Tenpenny arrives for the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev., Monday, March 7, 2022.

Music City Survivor League week 5 picks

  • Brooke Eden (3-1): Buffalo Bills over the Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Matt Stell (3-1): Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Atlanta Falcons

  • Mitchell Tenpenny (3-1): Buffalo Bills over the Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Lainey Wilson (4-0): Green Bay Packers over the New York Giants

About the Tennessean's Music City Survivor League

Country music fandom and NFL nerd-ery collide with the inaugural Music City Survivor League, a bragging rights tournament for the biggest football geek on Music Row. Artists pick one team a week each week of the NFL season. If that team wins or ties? They move on. If that team loses? They're in trouble.

We'll play double-elimination. If your favorite artist picks wrong this week, they may still have a fighting chance. No artist can pick the same team twice in a season. Last musician standing wins the league.

Follow along each week via Tennessean.com or in our weekly music newsletter, The Pick.
