Sally Renee Tausch, a music education and theater major at the University of Mount Union, has received the 2023 Mu Phi Epsilon Alliance Alumni Merit Award.

Tausch received a $1,000 check at a recent meeting of the Phi chapter on campus.

The award honors Tausch’s musical performance, proven leadership and high academic achievement.

Currently the chapter’s president, group members said she maintains an excellent grade-point average, studying singing with voice instructor Amanda Joyce Abbott.

Tausch is a Salem resident who attended Heartland Christian School in Columbiana.

She recently performed in the campus production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

In a news release announcing the award, club officials said Tausch has loved singing from an early age, and sings with church-affiliated organizations and the Chapel at Mount Union.

Mu Phi Epsilon professional music fraternity was established in 1903 as a women’s sorority in Cincinnati with the goal of "advancing the cause of music in America and to create a bond of friendship through a love for music.” Now an international organization, it includes 227 collegiate chapters, 113 alumni chapters and more than 75,000 members. Mount Union’s chapter was created in 1915, and the Alliance Alumni chapter was formed in 1933.
