LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Several Arkansas agencies are coming together in capital city to kick off a three-month fitness challenge on Friday.

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Human Services have put together the Blue & You Challenge kick-off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 1 at 601 S. The challenge is a three-month competition where participants are encouraged to exercise and make healthy choices in order to earn points. First starting in 2004, it runs from March 1 to May 31.

DJ Hollywood will be on hand for the Friday kick-off with music, and organizers have arranged opportunities to play pickleball and other games. Food trucks will be on hand, including Tacos Godoy and Green Leaf Grill.

Jazzercise instructors will also be there, teaching free classes, and the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is providing Speed Pitch fun, organizers said.

Challenge director Kristen Lippencott outlined the event theme and intent.

“This year, our theme is ‘Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood,’” Lippencott said. “We’ve been working with our neighbors, ADH and DHS, for more than 20 years.”

Lippencott invited everyone to come out on March 1 to get involved.

The theme is about taking care of neighbors, organizers said. As part of that, kick-off attendees are encouraged to donate new or gently used sneakers and athletic shoes of all sizes to support The Van in its mission of supporting the unhoused.
