MUSIC: Jacob's Well to host David Coate

Sep. 1—VERNON — David Coate will perform at Jacob's Well Coffeehouse on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7.

The event will be held in the Union Church sanctuary, 3 Elm St., in the historic Rockville section of Vernon.

Admission is free, and dress is casual.

Coate is a contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, worship leader, and producer based in Pembroke, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston.

He was educated in classical guitar at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music and educated in keyboard/piano at Berklee College. Coate has recorded nine CDs in the rock/pop genre, the most recent being "This is Love." He has toured nationwide with the David Coate Group, performed at major festivals including Creation and Soul Festival, and performed with Christian artists such as Michael W. Smith, Phil Keaggy, and Brian Duncan.

Coate's music has also received national radio exposure. He is proficient on acoustic, electric and nylon string guitar, keyboard, and bass.

Somers fall concert series

The Somers Cultural Commission opens its 2022 fall concert series on Saturday, Sept. 3, with Brian Chicoine and Vicky St. Pierre playing classic country and western from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Gazebo and on the Green at 19 Battle St.

The concert series continues each Saturday through Oct. 8 with the exception of Sept. 17, when the Four Town Fair and parade are scheduled to be held in Somers.

Bring a folding chair or a blanket, family and friends, a picnic or takeout from one of three local restaurants: Hometown Kitchens, Mario's Pizzeria, or Somers Pizza and Family Restaurant.

Snacks, drinks, and ice cream will be available for purchase at Dave's Snacks to benefit the Somers Rotary Scholarship Fund. There is also a nearby playground for youngsters.

If unable to attend in person, concerts can be seen live on Facebook, listed under "Somers Concert Series." In case of bad weather, the concerts will be held on Sundays at the same time and location.

The lineup after Saturday is:

—Sept 10: St. Luke's Steel Band — calypso, reggae and island folk music.

—Sept 24: Six Pack of Blues — jump/blues/swing.

—Oct 1: Big Deal Rock Band — rock 'n' roll from the '60s to today

—Oct 8: By request — Acoustic Rick sings favorite tunes from among 2,000 songs in his repertoire.

East Hartford

Mosaics, a concert planning organization, will sponsor a summer concert series that runs through Saturday, Sept. 17, at at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes St., East Hartford.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, Mosaics presents the Foundry Saxophone Quartet at 7 p.m.

The program will feature an array of styles including classical, swing, folk, rock, ragtime styles and more. The Foundry Quartet is made up of professional saxophonists and music teachers from the Hartford area.

Classic country

VERNON — Paul Serra and Country Gold will play traditional country music Friday, Sept. 2, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the TKB Club, 1 Vernon Ave.

Food will be available. There is a $10 cover charge.

Real Art Ways

HARTFORD — Real Art Ways presents ImprovisationsNOW, a monthly music series curated by Joe Morris, on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 2:30 p.m.

This month's performance features Joe Morris on the electric guitar, and Ken Vandermark on the tenor saxophone and clarinet.

General admission tickets are $15, $12 for Real Art Ways members. Tickets for full-time students are $8.

Hartbeat Music Festival

The Hartbeat Music Festival will take place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, at the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, 300 Columbus Blvd., Hartford

Times are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission to this family-friendly event is free.

There will be three stages of live music featuring a number of genres. The lineups include many of the best musicians and award-winning bands in New England, playing rock, folk, country, hip hop, Latin, and jazz.

There also will be food trucks, drinks, activities such as yoga and a running club for kids, art, and vendors.

Mark Twain House

Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule returns to the Mark Twain House and Museum for her fourth intimate concert appearance on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.

The Denver-born songwriter/guitarist/singer's work is at once deeply personal and socially conscious, seriously funny and derisively tragic.

Tickets are $30 for the general public and $25 for Mark Twain House and Museum members.
