New Music Tuesday: As Summer Ends, Mary Lambert Will Keep You Warm

Every Tuesday, Spotify posts a slew of new music available to stream. But with so many singles out there, how can you know what's worthwhile? Each week, The Wire will break down which songs you need to hear, which are delectable hate-listens, and which should find a home on your personal playlists. Click the song title to open it on Spotify – or jam out immediately by pressing play on the accompanying YouTube and Soundcloud players.

Most Pleasant Surprise: "Heart On My Sleeve," Mary Lambert

Mary Lambert is best known for her quietly beautiful chorus on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love." But Lambert is much more than just a hook, as she's determined to prove with her new album. As a track, "Heart on My Sleeve" (after which the album is titled) will take those who only know the "Same Love" Lambert. The themes are the same, but the song is quicker and sunnier. It's a really nice palate cleanser to start the four-day work week.

Mike Will Made It Production of the Week: "No Tears," Jeezy f/ Future

Mike Will Made It is one of the most ambitious, exciting producers in the hip-hop world, and he almost universally does right by his collaborators. He's helped Jeezy craft a really listenable single in "No Tears," featuring a killer hook from Future. Jeezy's rap is on point, and the production barely touches his work, letting him take the spotlight. It's surprisingly laid-back and lovely.

Song to Make You Miss Summer: "High Dive," Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

Andrew McMahon, late of Jack's Mannequin, is getting deep with his new project. Titled (and by) Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, the album is set to be released in full on Oct. 14. "High Dive," the second pre-release track, is a bouncy piano track with a lot more going on in the lyrics. But it's destined to make you miss summer immediately.

Ryan Adams-est Track of the Week: "Tired of Giving Up," Ryan Adams

Do you love Ryan Adams? You will love this single from his new, self-titled album! It's been three years since we've gotten new Adams, and there's a bit more development here than there has been in his previous work. (Adams was notorious for quick releases up until 2011.) Still, Adams' sound is pretty consistent – you know what you're getting here. It's just sharper than it has been before.

Most British Release: "Colour My Heart," Charlotte OC

Charlotte OC, a singer from the UK, has that particular sound that seems to only come from across the Atlantic. It's the dreary ache in the voice that melds with an enjoyable, dance-friendly beat. The song may not break out stateside – we're notoriously unfriendly to extra vowels in words like "Colour" – but it's gorgeous nonetheless.
