A message from Nederlander Concerts says that it has formed a partnership with the venue and will be the exclusive booking agent, producer and promoter.

The Backyard will be at Cal Expo, behind Rock & Brews, which is near the corner of Exposition Blvd. and Ethan Way. The venue will have a capacity of more than 3,500 people.

Several of the first performers, as well as a summer festival, have already been announced.

The kickoff event at The Backyard will be the Sad Summer Festival, a music festival that will feature a traveling group of emo and punk bands, on Friday, July 12.

A poster for the festival lists Mayday Parade and The Maine among the headliners. After Sacramento’s festival, the event will continue to other cities across the country.

The other two events that are currently listed on the calendar for The Backyard are a night of performances from Chicano rock bands Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys on Aug. 9, and Mexican performer Julieta Venegas on Sept. 20.

Its website says that it is also involved in the operations and programming of Heart Health Park, which is located at the other end of Cal Expo and is where Sacramento Republic FC plays its home matches.
