Musician Sarah Swain and poets to celebrate Women's History Month this weekend in Hyannis

In honor of Women’s History Month, Voices of Poetry is hosting four poets and a musician for a presentation at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Bread & Roses Bookstore and Cafe, 302 Main St., Hyannis.

Featured poets are Kathleen Aguero, Eileen Cleary, Jeannette de Beauvoir and Krysten Hill. Music will be by singer and songwriter Sarah Swain.

“The event will be a benefit for Independence House, a domestic violence shelter in Hyannis. There is a suggested donation of $20, but no one will be denied admission due to lack or shortage of funds. Every cent collected will be donated to Independence House,” said Voices of Poetry founder Neil Silberblatt in a statement.

Musician Sarah Swain and her efforts to help families battling cancer was the subject of the documentary, "Rise Above" made by Chatham resident Kim Roderiques. Swain will take part in a presentation at 2 p.m. Saturday to honor Women's History Month.

Those events – which have featured Poets Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winners and nominees, as well as beginners – have been at several venues, including Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
