Muskego couple gives birth to baby boy during snowstorm at a McDonald's in Hales Corners

A Muskego couple had quite the surprise delivery at a McDonald's parking lot in Hales Corners ― a newborn baby.

"It was a huge surprise," Analysia Beck said. "It was probably the scariest and hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it was worth every second. My husband was terrified, but handled it very well and stayed as calm as he could."

Analysia and her husband Daniel Beck were on their way to the hospital during the beginning of a heavy snowstorm shortly before 4 a.m. Jan. 12 when Analysia's water broke. Analysia felt there was a good chance they weren't going to make it to the hospital in time, so they pulled into the McDonald's parking lot on South 108th Street.

"I knew almost as soon as we left our house that we weren’t going to make it to the hospital," Analysia said. "But I never imagined we would be having the baby at McDonald’s."

After pulling into the parking lot, the little bundle of joy immediately started to make his grand entrance. The couple then called for assistance as the baby fell into his father's arms.

Shortly after, the couple said police showed up, followed by paramedics, who put the newborn on oxygen.

A healthy baby boy was delivered at 4:12 a.m. The couple named the baby Micah Daniel, whom they affectionally nicknamed "McFlurry." Baby "McFlurry" weighed 8.6 pounds and was 20½ inches long.

Analysia described the unusual birth in a Facebook post:

"It was terrifying, traumatizing, and painful giving birth all natural with no meds or doctors and seeing him come out completely blue because it happened so fast and literally in the snow, but he’s doing very well now and all we can do is praise and thank God for protecting us!"

How Hales Corners responded to the unusual dispatch call they received

Hales Corners Fire Department Captain of Training Jaime Thorpe, firefighter and EMT Brianna Baltutis and firefighter and advanced EMT Thomas Malak, were among the first responders who took the call about the mom in labor at the McDonald's parking lot.

They received the call at 4 a.m. just as a snowstorm started to impact the area.

Baltutis said she did not expect to be a part of a fast delivery process during a snowstorm ― and she and Malak didn't think it would take place where it did.

"When we first got the call, I think both of us were kind of thinking, 'We'll get mom on the cot and we'll get going right away just to get her to the hospital,' which would be a best scenario," she said. "But that did work out that way. She delivered in the back of her trunk."

At this point, the snowstorm was in full effect as Thorpe arrived on the second ambulance with her partner.

"When you are in this profession long enough, you kind of get a spidey sense, so my spidey senses were tingling," Thorpe said. "Everyone did a good job, especially mom and baby."

Also responding were Franklin paramedics, the Greenfield Med 92 unit and first responders from Greendale, Thorpe said.

While Baltutis thought the "McFlurry" nickname was clever, Malak had a cute nickname of his own for baby Micah.

"I would call him a Baby McNugget," Malak said. "I thought about that hours after the call."

How life has been for the couple since baby Micah's arrival

After Micah was born, the couple still had a couple of chaotic days. Due to the snowstorm and bitter cold weather conditions, the couple had lost power in their home.

"When we were discharged from the hospital, we still didn’t have power back on at home yet from the snowstorm," Analysia said. "We were one of the last in Wisconsin to get power back, so Micah’s first night out of the hospital was spent at my best friend's house and his second night was at my mom’s house."

The Becks are parents of two other children who also have been adjusting to the new arrival.

"My son is 3 and is the best big brother to Micah. He's constantly kissing him, asking to hold him, or smelling him," Analysia said.

The couple's other child is still getting used to her new baby brother.

"My daughter is 1, and she is not a fan of the baby at all," said Analysia, jokingly.

The couple says they're very appreciative of the quick response from the police and the paramedics.
