Muskogee, Oklahoma Is Hosting a Giant Celebration for the 50th Anniversary of Merle Haggard's Okie from Muskogee

On October 10th, 1969, Merle Haggard took the stage at the Muskogee Civic Center. The performance — which featured guest appearances from Buck Owens, Jimmie Rodgers, and more — was released as the live album Okie from Muskogee, with much success.

Fifty years later, Muskogee is honoring the country music legend with a commemorative concert, also hosted at the Muskogee Civic Center on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 from 5:00pm-10:00pm. According to a press release from the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, the show will feature Ben Haggard and the Strangers, Haggard's son and original band, along with other special guests including the Oklahoma band Ricochet.

“We are excited to announce this event that is fifty years in the making,” said Justin O’Neal, Interim Tourism Director for the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce in the same press release “This album is known as one of the greatest albums of all time featuring one of the greatest songs of all time,” he added.

Tickets for the event will cost the same as they did in 1969, running you $3, $3.50, or $4, and go on sale on August 8th at VisitMuskogee.com. A VIP package with special seating and a reception will also be available for purchase. Have more questions? You can call the chamber of commerce at (918) 682-2401.
