Muslims attend Eid prayers at mosques across India
STORY: Devotees in several cities, including New Delhi, gathered in large numbers early in the morning to offer their prayers, after the coronavirus pandemic muted such celebrations for the past two years.
"This is very important because we didn't think we could come and offer Eid 'namaz' (in mosques) (due to coronavirus). By god's will, the prayers took place nicely," said a devotee, Firoz.
Muslims embraced each other and exchanged Eid greetings after the prayers.
During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours for about 30 days. At the end of the fasting month, Muslims celebrate the religious holiday with early morning prayers and then family visits and feasts, often featuring a lavish spread of traditional delicacies.
